Depression in a nutshell

Depression is not simply characterized by a bad day. It is not a bad break up, a loss of a job or the loss of a loved one. It can transpire at any given moment and it doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t have a rhyme or reason to its madness and when it hits, it hits hard.

I’ve dealt with depression on and off for years of my life. It lead me to inpatient hospitalizations and suicide attempts but medication and doctors never cured my depression. After reading the Bible I finally knew why none of it was working.

In Isaiah 61 a spirit of despair is mentioned. It says “a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.” Despair means the complete loss or absence of hope which essentially is what depression is.

Medication could never take away that spirit AKA demon. The only person who could take the depression away and restore the joy that was lost was Jesus. The Bible says He is the Living Hope (1 Peter 1:3-9) so what better person to go to when hopeless but Him?

If you’re struggling with depression I know how ugly it can be but please, please, please know that this is a battle far greater than what your eyes can see. You need Jesus because the Devil is after you.

Jesus loves you and He doesn’t want you to hurt. Run to him, not to the things of this world.
